OUR PASTORS
Pastors Ben and Shauna Balk planted New Hope on August 24, 2025. Both are natives of central Missouri but were executive pastors for 6 years at New Hope Church, in Concord, CA. Ben, a licensed minister who holds a masters degree in curriculum & instruction, and spent the beginning of his career as a high school teacher and football coach. He’s known affectionately by many as “Coach” outside of the context of football for his ability to develop and execute a gameplan while preparing others to achieve their potential. Shauna is an alumni of the University of Missouri and has an extensive career in non-profit management, particularly with St. Raymond’s Society where she and Ben serve on the executive leadership team.
ABOUT PASTORS BEN & SHAUNA
“We always knew of-God, but hadn’t experienced the Awe of God until attending services at Solid Rock Church”, Ben says. It was there they grew as disciples of Christ and it all changed when Ben changed. Ben went on a mission trip in 2014, and had a radical move of God in his life. It was then that he heard God for the first time clearly say “You need a spiritual awakening”. From that day on the Balk household changed forever. It was only 1 year later they sold 4 rental units, 2 homes (all in one weekend) all their stuff and headed for California, under Pastor’s Joe and Teena Skiles. Ben’s first role was as New Hope Academy’s Administrator. Once this was in health he became the Executive Pastor. Shauna planted a St. Raymond’s home, called “Hope House” on the same campus as the church, which still runs today supported by the church. Later she became the Connections Pastor. Their children grew up on the campus and love ministry. They were instrumental in the revitalization of New Hope, Ca. Once it was in health, becoming affectionately known as “the fastest growing church in the Bay”, God called the Balks back to central MO. The Balk’s returned to Missouri in 2022, for the expansion of St. Raymond’s 21-family maternity home which is for mothers who choose life, despite challenging circumstances. New Hope CoMo will be a home for those mothers and children, as well as the entire Columbia community.

Pastors Ben and Shauna have 3 growing children; Alex (31) of Boulder, CO, Blair (18) a freshman at the University of Missouri, and Bailey (11) who hopes to be the world’s best cheerleader someday.

LEADERSHIP
We are all a work in progress, striving to be like Jesus.
A PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST...
We are a part of the body of Christ who strives for people to grow closer to God, improve each day, and develop leaders no matter what age they are. Our focus is on developing people. Nobody has “arrived.” We are lifelong learners and what we have learned we will share with others whether that’s from our testimony or from our experiences. We exist to help the next generation keep The Church strong and thriving for generations to come. We know in order for people, young and old, to learn God’s plan for their lives they must first be free of their past before they can take on their future.
